Last.fm social music service March 13
Last.fm is a the music service that I use to create the chart you see in the sidebar of my site with the most recent tracks I have listened to. I signed up with it in order to make the chart, but it is actually a pretty amazing social music site… basically the program logs the songs you listen to within your audio player (itunes, windows media, etc) and creates the chart you see. However it goes WAY beyond that as you will see when you head over to their site. It essentially creates a music profile for you based on your preferences and makes all kinds of recommendations of artists and tracks that you would probably like. You can also tag your music to organize it within the site, and essentially create radio stations that others can listen to! So for instance, if a song I love is playing I can click a button in the last.fm software to add it to my favorites list…. once I do that that makes a “radio station” that my friends can listen to. It’s super cool, but also hard to describe, so here is the faq from last.fm:
